This article (which I discovered when it was shared by Randy Thom) was an interesting read for me. I’ve started joining a writing team in the early development of a story, and it’s been fascinating to contribute my perspective on storytelling at the start of the process, rather than in post-production. Decisions are being influenced by how the story could be handled sonically!
But equally, I am learning a lot about what the writers do, in so many ways. The skeleton on which the flesh of the performances, sound and music, is what will make it all stand. And its a new experience to feel the characters come to life in the imagination, characters that, in post-production, are so real I can ‘meet’ them, and translate their experiences and personalities into music.
So it works both ways!
